Title: 96 SR tach help
Post by: B2Montero on July 18, 2019, 11:12:56 PM
My tach stays stuck at about 3000rpm when the engine is running. As soon as it starts it jumps up and stays there. Otherwise it sits on the peg like it is supposed to do.  If you poke the gas it will move about 200rpm . I've pounded on the dash to no avail. I thought I read something about a resistor somewhere. Any guidance? Thanks!

I haven't encountered that problem myself but I remember that this guy has been recommended for repair service in the past - and even is a Montero owner himself.  https://craigskbh.wixsite.com/speedometer  .

There are also replacement OE style tachs on yoycart pretty inexpensively.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!

try this:

or try buying one of these and replace just the tachometer:
