Gen 2 Montero / 1995 SR couple of questions
« on: December 30, 2018, 09:17:11 AM »
1. I have a buzzing type rattle that appears to be near the left side windshield when the vehicle get up to about 60 mph. Anyone else have this issue and a fix?

2. Once again I am confounded by the rear bench seat. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to fold it forward. Can someone give me a step by step instruction on how to fold that thing forward? It's such a pain, I am considering taking it out - once I figure out how to fold it forward.

Gen 2 Montero / 1995 SR Fuse #11 shorting out
« on: June 01, 2018, 09:00:03 PM »
MY Monty has 110,000 miles on it and just recently, the 10a fuse "11 in the under-dash fuse box started burning out. At first, I could drive it for several hours until it popped, but no all I do is turn on the ignition on and it pops, when I turn the key to start. When it popps, it makes it so the speedo, tach, odometer, all the gauges and idiot lights no longer work. What still works is the 4WD light and the light that shows me which gear I am in. After dark, the dash lights turn on so I can see the dash, but none of the indicators work. I've been driving it around trying to see if there is any pattern to this. One thing I noticed is when I push in the Overdrive button, it doesn't seem to shift into a higher gear now. Here is a list of what I have done fairly recently that could possibly have affected it:

Swapped out the electric adjustable shocks to some KYB's, I took the electrical wires and just ziptied them up and out of the way without covering them with tape or cutting them (could that be it?)
Recently changed the stereo to put in an alpine stereo.... I had the installer put a switch inline to the antenna, so I could keep it from going up if I wasn't listening to the radio

It really bothers me to drive without gauges and i'd like to fix. Anyone have any  ideas?

Gen 2 Montero / 95 SR Radio
« on: January 20, 2018, 06:47:03 PM »
So I have the (I guess) double din cassette/radio w equalizer. I assume there is an amp somewhere.... is this an Infinity unit? If not, any idea what it is? My 95 is in really good condition, and the radio sounds ok, but I was wondering if there were a way to make it a little sound better utilizing the stock radio and amp. I am 62 yrs old, so my pavement pounding stereo aspirations are long gone. I just want it to sound really good at low to mid volumes. I am assuming since the speakers are over 22 years old, that maybe they may need a "tune up". Any recommendations for specific speakers which would work well with the stock head and amp? Or any other ideas?

On a side note, I was considering replacing the head unit with a 2 DIN mp3 stereo, but decided against it as the location of the stereo is pretty much worthless (near the floor consol) while you are driving, so I was actually considering getting an ipad mount to get the screen up where I can use it and then pipe the music from my ipad directly into the aux in on the front of the stock stereo. Would there be any issues with this? It would save me the hassle and extra expense of a new head unit and I could utilize the stock head and amp.

Gen 2 Montero / Custom Channel Iron Front Bumper?
« on: January 12, 2018, 04:17:41 PM »
I am looking for some sort of not terribly fancy custom channel iron front bumper with a winch mount for my 1995 SR. I saw that you guys have a mount for a winch using the original bumper, but I want something a little sturdier that sticks out a little further. I used to have a winch bumper made from 4" channel for my toyota and it stuck out 8" and the areas on either side of the centered winch was used for lockable boxes where I could store tire chains, tow straps, snatch blocks and all winch related stuff. Does anyone make anything like that for the Montero? I may put my 12,000lb milemarker hydraulic winch in there or maybe opt for something a little lighter like an electric winch. Just shopping options.
