The ad: (Asking $1,000)

1995 montero 3.0 v6 auto heat/ac work 4x4 works 3rd row seats 7
runs drives, new tires, timing belt done 10k ago
does need new muffler
250k miles

I'd like to get something for my daily to save the wear and tear on my Gen 1 SWB and have more time to work on some stuff, but I dont want to be dumping a lot of money into keeping a daily driver going. Any thoughts on buying a high-mileage Gen2?

Build Threads / 1987 Dodge Raider "Rowdy Reggie"
« on: October 07, 2017, 10:08:06 AM »
Hello all,

I'm a previous owner of a 2001 Montero Sport. I sold it and regretted it badly. After a few years, I decided to get back in the family. During a recent trip to Costa Rica, my brother and I took a Suzuki Jimny (Samurai) all over the back roads and to the west coast; we loved that little guy. The enjoyment from a two-door 4WD (I call them "Cute 'Utes") and the yearning for a Mitsu led me to look for two door 4WD vehicles. I looked at first gen 4Runners (Love boxy style) but found a couple gems in Central Nebraska. The first one I looked at was a Flintstones Mobile--rust through both floorpans, the rockers, wheel wells, and well, everywhere. Once I test drove it though, I knew I had found the right model, just not the right car. A little over a week later, I came across this gem on Craigslist:

What a gem! What a snowplow! Got him down $1,000, which, coincidentally, is what I'll end up spending on it anyways, just in other ways.   :o

So bring him home, and the fun begins.

Gen 1 Montero / 1987 Raider "Christmas tree"
« on: October 03, 2017, 07:03:03 PM »
Hello all! Relatively new to the FB group, and the forums. I will have a build thread in a week or two showing off the Raider, but for right now, I'm trying to take care of some odds and ends. I have a 1987 Dodge Raider, 2.6L, 4WD, auto transmission.

Like, where to start on this Christmas tree? I've been looking at the factory service manual and trying to figure things out.

1st, the EGR light automatically comes on every 50k, and this has 67K on it. Should I reset the switch, and if it comes back I need to get further into the system? The main EGR valve looks like an easy switch and runs $25.

2nd, the A/T temp switch. It was on when I got it, fluid appears nominal. The picture taken is from the right side, laying down. The manual says to pull the connector off to see if it's in the sensor or the wiring. Am I correct that the sensor is in the top right with the red/black wires coming out? There appears to be another sensor to the left of it, plus the one on the bottom of the photo. I wanted to make sure I was messing with the right thing.

3/4 I'm not sure where to start to troubleshoot the Brake and Battery light. Brake fluid level is good, but it looks like a newer brake fluid unit. Perhaps it's a different type? Any pointers would be appreciated.

5th Oil pressure gauge is giving me nothing, pointers there too?

6th Inclinometer, do people fill that with silicone oil or glycerin to get them working again? Or is it more complicated than that?

Yes, that is a lot of questions. I'm attempting to teach myself these things without leaning on my mechanic too much. Appreciate any help.
