4.88 Ring and pinion for Gen1
« on: May 27, 2017, 02:56:50 PM »
I'm rebuilding my ARB air locker for my rear diff on my 89 SWB V6 montero (24 years old and still works but leaks a little so it was time) and want to change my 4.62s out for 4.90s. It looks like those are some what available but fronts 4.88s low pinion seem to be rare. I'm putting a new Aussie locker in front but need to change front and rear gears at the same time. If anyone has clue as to where I might find some it would be appreciated. If not I will live with the 4.62s.
Do it today for tomorrow it will be illegal!

I've got the info on 5.29's if your interested, instead of 4.90's. Just got my 5.29's installed in my 94 SR, and they will fit in your truck with the greatest of ease. You got my number if your interested. Front and rear 5.29's will run you about $700 or $800 shipped to your door in about 10 days.

That would work for my rear but do they work on the 8" low pinion front? If I go that low it might motivate me to do the body lift and 37"s.

Aaaah, yes, in fact that's the difference. The 5.29's are available in the low pinion as of right now only. There is suppose to be a HP 8" 5.29, we just have not figured out this part number yet. So you would be set to re gear and rock 37's.
