Just another 2.5 WP
« on: November 07, 2017, 12:13:42 PM »
So....I'll just do a quick "up to speed" before I get going on this again.
As many of you know, I've been plagued with gremlins for the last few months. Even after a full rebuild.
But that's for another thread.
On to the good stuff....
After debating heavily between a Trooper and a Montero for months, I picked this thing up for $1400 on July 15th, 2015.

Started right away with removing the running boards, and a thorough cleaning.
The POs had absolutely destroyed the interior. It took me 2 days, 2 bottles of Purple Power, 2 cans of Rustoleum, and a lot of gagging. But I got the floors clean and sealed, and new carpet in.

Now...just a random photo dump. The sleeping platform has undergone a few iterations, and is about to be totally redesigned again.
The steel bumper is also going under the ax during Thanksgiving break because I hate the underbite look....

Modified Gauge pod with new inclinometer...

love my truck...despite it hating me.
More projects in the works.....

Toasty....
It was horrible. It looked like kids had a snack and soda fight in there for a few years. I wouldn't set my tools on the floors. We're, sticky, and smelled awful. Puddles of brown goo were racing to the floor drains as I pulled the carpet. Every leather and plastic surface were sticky. Seat tracks wouldn't move. It was bad....
But worth it regardless. Even if it wasn't a mess, it sure was nice having fresh floors and carpet.

For a minute I thought you were describing my rig (s)...

Did you say you dropped in new carpet?  If so, where from?  The light gray carpet in mine is so trashed that I would love something new to drop in.

Can't remember right now where I got it, but it was around $120 if I recall.
It fits great other than needing to make some cuts for the tunnel!
I'll do some digging....but I'm pretty sure I just googled "98 Montero Carpet".

Thanks!  I ASSumed that it wouldn't be available for the Monty. There are a few kits on Ebay and then one at profitautointeriors.com in a similar price range <$150 with shipping.  I was just curious if there was a difference in weight or quality.

Thanks,
Ross

I've used stockinteriors.com before as well.  Good stuff.

No matter where you order, it's worth the relatively small extra money for the thicker/denser stuff.  Feels way nicer in general. Small price to pay.

Curious how you modified the center gauge cluster to fit the inclinometer

Modified the inner housing to fit it, and used the "glass" from a 1st gen.
I've been considering doing this if people were interested.
The hard part is getting the inclinometers from China in a reasonable amount of time.

Just a little time killing and rearranging.....
These close up pictures make me realize how bad I need a good detailing!

Added an aux port for the stereo.

Relocated the heated seat switches. These ones are trash...waiting for some replacements.

Locker switch in a much more convenient location. The switch next to it is going to be gone soon too.

Sorry, missed the pics not working before. PM me if you have problems with images moving forward.

Love the level of detail in this build. I don't mind my rig getting dirty, but I want it to be MINE. Not some random person's. You feel like you're in a cheap hotel or something, eh?

Good progress so far! Keep us posted!

Thanks for reminding me.  I need to move the seat heater switches back to there.  I got a new console, and i thought it had a working cupholder.  Couldn't figure out how to get the wire up there with the cupholder present, so i put the switches in oem location. (They were relocated on my first console)

Then cupholder turned out to be broken anyways, so now i'm just super annoyed with the switches in oem location.  (And i plugged them in backwards, so passenger side is on driver, and vice versa. Ugh.)
