Crazy oil pressure gauge inquirey
« on: November 12, 2017, 09:25:40 PM »
First off, this place is amazing!! Now my question..
96 SR 235K on the clock. On start up the gauge seems to read where it should when it's cold. After it warms up and at in-town speeds it sits about in the middle. When I'm on the freeway (65-70) under a steady pedal, it drops down to almost zero. When I let off the gas, it rises back up to almost the middle. It acts like the old vacuum windshield wipers. They always worked better when you lifted your foot...  Could it be a bad sender unit?  There is no ticking or knocking, runs great. Also do these rigs have an "idiot light" in addition to the gauge?    I'm stumped and it freaks me out when I look over and see it sitting at zero... :o

Sounds like a possible ground issue, check your grounds. One on each side of the block, driver side goes to the frame then to the fender then to the battery, one on top of the engine to bulkhead and one on each side of the transmission.
