NMBDR through Gila on the way to Overland Expo West
« on: April 06, 2017, 07:05:51 AM »
We are thinking about getting on the New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route in Truth Or Consequences, and then hopping off around Luna, through Alpine, then to Sedona area via Schnebly Road for some hiking and trail riding (possibly Oak Creek Homestead) before the Expo.

We will be leaving western NC, via I 40, on May 5th, so should be in T o C about Sunday May 7th.

Anyone have any thoughts or tips?

Anyone want to join us, perhaps?

I am driving out from Denver and considering a route that would cross your path.

I just got approval for taking Thursday off so I'm planning on helping the wife with kiddos Thursday morning then heading North around 8am to try and get a good camping spot.

Is the official ADD/Mitsu/stupid-guys-named-shovel-who-drive-rams-now camp at 3502'01.6"N 11147'32.3"W  or somewhere else?

Shovel, if that's the place with the wind, yes. And...surprise, it will be windy again Saturday, with gusts up to 40 mph.

I'm going to be there about 6:00. Hopefully a good night with good people. Been through the wind tunnell before but hope to have dinner and a fire without too much dirt or sand.
Do it today for tomorrow it will be illegal!

Troy, there shouldn't be dirt or sand there, it's pine trees all 'round. It's a nice place. I'm planning to try to get out of the valley around 5, so probably get in about 8-ish with Mark (Stroker Explosion) and his crew. Don't think any of the 14th St Crew except me will be there.
