Buying a high mileage 1995 LR

The ad: (Asking $1,000)

1995 montero 3.0 v6 auto heat/ac work 4x4 works 3rd row seats 7
runs drives, new tires, timing belt done 10k ago
does need new muffler
250k miles

I'd like to get something for my daily to save the wear and tear on my Gen 1 SWB and have more time to work on some stuff, but I dont want to be dumping a lot of money into keeping a daily driver going. Any thoughts on buying a high-mileage Gen2?

Get you a 94-04 V6 Mustang.   They're in your price range, parts are abundant,  they don't really have any mechanical gotcha's,  everything's been figured out on them already,  there's massive community and knowledge out there.     "But they're slow!" .. yeah well the slowest one is faster than the fastest 3.0 Montero and  you can make them fast with junkyard parts off minivans and Rangers.

Monteros are cool and all but quarter-century-old-orphan-4x4 doesn't exactly say "Daily I don't want to put money into".

+1.

Neons are good.  Millions of them in junkyards.  Easy to work on.  Parts cost nothing.  More fun to drive than you'd think.
