Gen2.5 EcuFlash Definition File
« on: May 16, 2018, 08:20:27 AM »
I've seen a few dozen posts saying that "we" have the definition file for these ECUs, but i haven't actually seen it, and i seem to be unable to find it.  My truck is a 98, would anyone be willing to point me in the right direction?

Thanks i shot that over to my friend who i'd have do the tuning (i'm a standalone guy, oem ECUs annoy me), though that title says it's for a 2002.

Ok that does appear to be a definition file, but i'm concerned that it's a 2002 and not Gen2.

Anyone have a 98 definition file?

Do these need Tactrix 1.3 or 2.0?

It's from Vince, he has a Gen 3 3.5 SOHC. Those do have a knock sensor, was wondering how that would roll on my '99 as well.

From what i understand, definition files are married pretty closely to ECUs, so you don't want to mix 'n' match.  I will try to look at some pinouts this week to see how close it is. That file could work for us IF we can use a 2002 ecu.  Otherwise, i/we need the appropriate gen2.5 definition file.

Bear with me, i'm trying to put myself through a crash course with this stuff.  If i have to swap to an expensive Jester-chipped Chrome ecu to do this, then i'd just as soon run it on an actual standalone for the same price or less.  But ideally since my current plan is to just toss a non-MIVEC 6g75 at it, if i can get a way to put the appropriate maps on my existing 98 ecu and call it good, i don't care about knock or any of that jazz.  I just need it to run safely and no throw a CEL for missing emissions.  Max power is not a concern.

A Gen 3 ECU has transmission control incorporated in it and is not comparable with a Gen 2 which has a very simple external transmission control.

... and I knew that! Totally spaced that little detail, if anyone wants to collaborate $$$ to have our ECU's defined I'd throw in.

So maybe I can shed some light on this.  Since I have been working with Jester to move forward the montero ECU project.  He will have 98-2000 PNP ECU shortly. So the deal here is you should get a 2.0 tactrix and download your rom and work from that. The reason here is that there variations in the ROM files depending on what ECU your truck has. International / Federal / CA trucks have different rom files. Is you truck a CA or Fed rig? Does it have EGR / EVAP and how many 02's?

I don't think you will find a cheaper / easier standalone for the truck than the Montero (version of the chrome ecu) considering the one for the Montero just plugs in and uses all the factory sensors and wiring harness.

It won't.. The 97 and 98-2000 Montero Chrome ECU's are ready. Next step is setting up the base tunes and start up roms.

Are you referring to John from Jestr tuning?
