I'm in something of a holding pattern at the moment.

I bought a '97 MS a week or two ago to harvest the 5MT V5MT1, front brakes, front suspension, steering system, and a few other bits and have been parting out the rest to recoup some of my costs:

https://forum.adventuredrivendesign.com/index.php/topic,804.0.html

The upside is I've gained a spare 5MT V5MT1 I know to be in good working order and virtually all the major used/junkyard parts needed to complete my swap.

The only big parts I'm really missing now is a '02-'04 MS CAD free 4.636 front diff and a 3rd row radiator from a 2.6 Raider/SB 1st Gen. I've a line on a diff for a decent price, but the yard is about 2 hours away and only open 8-5/M-F, which makes getting down there a bit tricky and it looks like a number of yards on car-part.com have the radiator I'm after.

As it stands, my rough plan is:

-Strip all the parts I'll be keeping, sell off anything else, and scrap the '97 MS.
-Track down the CAD free 4.636 front diff and 3rd row 2.6 radiator I need.
-Begin cleaning, stripping, rebuilding, overhauling, re-sealing, re-bushing, painting, rod, etc all the used parts I've sourced (diffs/axles/pumps/calipers/hubs/MCs/etc)
-Once it warms up a bit in a few weeks, I'll tear down my D50, sell the parts I won't be using, and remove the cab from the frame.
-Address any corrosion/rust in the frame and cab before repainting, sound proofing, and insulating.
-Order a bunch of new parts, upgraded suspension, 315mm brake rotors/ss lines, centerforce II clutch, EGT/boost gauges, new steel wheels/235/85/16r ATs, etc, and start putting it all back together again with new fluids and silicon hoses throughout.
-From there I'll have a host of smaller projects to tackle; front mount intercooler, new carpet/seats/interior, flatbed, snorkel, tubular bumper/winch, sliders, dual battery, etc....

It'll be several months yet until its all back together and up and running but feel the project warrants this degree of depth considering the investment I'm making.

I think it'll end up worth the wait, resulting in a pretty capable truck that checks my boxes more than anything else on the market, for considerably less:

-Simple
-Overbuilt/reliable
-Fuel efficient
-Versatile
-Not enormous

How has your intercooler and snorkel impacted the power and performance of your truck? Have you noticed lower EGTs? What's your MPG now?

More power for sure! I gained about 5-6 psi of boost and the EGT's are down about 100 degrees on the average. I haven't checked the mileage.

That sounds pretty good.

Do you notice the increase in power down low, higher in the revs, or everywhere?

Does the boost come on sooner now?

Did you end up with a 2.5" straight through exhaust?

Is your EGT probe in the manifold or tapped into the EGR block off?

It's pretty much all across the board.

Not sure if it comes on sooner as it spooled up pretty quick before, it just pulls hard all the way up to about 3000rpm

Yeah, 2.5" straight pipe.

It is in the EGR block off plate.

Ok,has anyone done this swap yet. I haven't made it to the transmission part of my swap. I am in the process of wiring it now. I hope I done have any problems, the 89 ram 50 was automatic already, I bought a 4d56 with the automatic transmission already attached. I'm hoping its plug and play.

I haven't heard of anyone who's done this swap with an automatic transmission and don't have any idea as to what issues you may or may not have with wiring and/or running either of your autos, whether its the original '89 D50 unit or the one that came with your 4D56.

I'm using a V5MT1 5 speed out of a '97 Montero Sport mated to a 4D56>V5MT1 specific bell housing I had to import from Europe.

You may have more luck searching some of the L200/Triton forums from Australia and the UK.

Progress has been slow but steady as I've continued to track down parts. In the past several weeks I've acquired the following:

-Set of 100mm CVs from a '94 SR.

-A seemingly unobtainium 4WD/5MT MM/D50 center console in grey.

-Complete macro cab interior trim pieces and dash in grey to replace the cracked blue dash and rough interior I currently have.

-CAD free front diff assembly from an '03 MS w/4.636 gearing.

-Front caliper mounts from a MS w/16" wheels to run the larger 315mm rotors.

I'll tear the truck down to the bare frame once the heavy rain relents in the next few weeks, address any rust, repaint everything, and then begin putting it all back together with all the upgraded parts I've gathered; taking the time to fully rebuild and refresh everything as I go with new paint, bushings, seals, bearings, consumables, top tier fluids, and all new HD suspension, etc.
