I have a 2002 Sport. Can the vapor canister behind the axle be turned on it's side?

I'm not sure if you were able to see the pic I posted with the question. The canister sits low and I've already broken one of the welded brackets on the box. I want to turn it on it's side and also move the purge pump above the frame. I want to know if turning the canister on its side will cause any problems.
Thanks in advance,
Roy
